Where it all began

Lippan art has its roots in the region of Kutch, Gujarat, India. It is a traditional art form that has been passed down through generations. The origins of lippan art can be traced back to the local mud houses, or bhungas, in the region. The women of the community would decorate the walls of these houses with intricate designs made from a mixture of clay, camel dung, and other natural materials. These designs would not only add beauty to the houses but also help in keeping them cool during the hot summers. Over time, this art form evolved and started being practiced not just on the walls of houses but also on other surfaces like pots and mirrors. Today, lippan art has gained recognition worldwide for its unique and stunning designs, and it continues to be an important part of the cultural heritage of the Kutch region.
